1. Project Background
In Japan, cross-language communication is a common part of daily life and business. From international students and travelers to multinational teams, the demand for instant communication when “language becomes a barrier” continues to grow. However, traditional translation apps rely on manual interaction and suffer from noticeable latency, making them unsuitable for continuous, natural conversations.
The client aimed to create an intelligent product that enables AI real-time translation and voice recording directly on smart earphones. Through seamless software–hardware integration, users can experience “listen and translate instantly” in natural dialogue—delivering a truly frictionless communication experience that lets them understand, converse, and record with ease.
2. Client Needs & Objectives
The client defined four core objectives for the product:
- Real-time simultaneous interpretation — enabling instant cross-language conversations simply by wearing the earphones;
- Automatic speech-to-text and AI-powered recording — converting conversations into text in real time and saving them as searchable history;
- Multi-language and global payment support — designed for users in Japan and international markets;
- Multi-device synchronization — allowing users to review translation history, audio records, and device status within the app.
The ultimate goal was to position the smart earphones as a universal voice assistant for daily conversations, travel, meetings, and learning, ensuring that language is never a barrier to communication.
3. Key Features
- AI real-time translation engine: Supports Chinese, English, and Japanese with an average response latency as low as 1.5 seconds;
- Speech transcription and automatic records: Each conversation is converted into text automatically, with export and AI-generated summaries;
- Smart Bluetooth connectivity: Seamless pairing between earphones and app, with automatic detection of language and speech speed;
- Voice wake-up and intelligent summaries: Hands-free control via voice commands, with AI-generated conversation highlights;
- Multi-language subscription system: Supports Chinese, Japanese, and English interfaces, with international payments via Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Stripe.
4. Results & Feedback
Following the simultaneous launch of the app and smart earphones, the product received strong positive feedback from users in Japan and across East Asia. Users widely praised its translation fluency and ease of use, noting particularly strong performance in travel, meetings, and cross-border video calls. This project successfully enabled the client to enter the AI smart audio device market and laid the foundation for a product ecosystem centered on AI voice interaction and intelligent translation services.
